Humans of UCI PhiDE
Sharing a Few of Our Faces and Stories
Shreyas MelanahalliChapter President, Alpha Eta Class
As I was coming into my second year, I realized I wanted more guidance and support in my life as I pursued the pre-med track. I was looking for a community of like-minded individuals who I could look to for support, encouragement, and friendship. PhiDE has provided me with numerous resources that are tailored to help any pre-med student succeed. PhiDE gave me a family who I now do everything with. From supporting each other and grinding in the classes we take to our endless spontaneous facetimes, PhiDE has given me some of my closest friends to share my college experience with. Navigating such a challenging career path is difficult as it is, but without my family in PhiDE, I have no idea how I would have gotten through any of it. |

As a first-year and first generation college student, I came into UCI completely lost on where to begin my path towards medical school and virtual learning only complicated things more. I looked towards campus organizations that could provide me guidance and decided on rushing PhiDE fall quarter. I fell in love with their emphasis on family and dedication to becoming physicians of integrity. I have gained so much from PhiDE. From clinical experience to academic mentorship, PhiDE has helped me grow immensely by not only providing resources and connections for the professional aspects of my college career, but also a supportive family who is there for me every step of the way. I am extremely grateful for these amazing individuals and all they have done for me thus far!!

Phi Delta Epsilon has been the best thing I've joined at UCI. Through this professional fraternity, I've met so many amazing individuals who have and continue to inspire me daily. I attribute the majority of my growth as a person and future physician to UC Irvine chapter. Joining Phi Delta Epsilon has given me a family who I know will always be there to support me. I knew basically nothing about what the path of medicine entailed. Thanks to this medical fraternity and its connections, I have been given so much knowledge and advice regarding the path to making my dreams of becoming a physician a reality.

When I came across PhiDE, it seemed like a no brainer to me, because I was looking for a non-competitive familial environment to help me grow as both a person and student. I was so excited to meet people with similar interests, as well as have a family to help guide me through this journey. Being apart of PhiDE, I can confidently say that this is one of the best decisions I've made. I've met some of my best friends and have gained so much insight into the medical field! |

The road to medical school is unquestionably a challenge, but it is endurable because of PhiDE. Everything I have attained in college is a result of my involvement in PhIDE: strong friendships, hospital experience, extracurricular activities, a crown in a pageant, and so much more! In this extremely competitive field, the support system that Phide provides allows me to thrive because I can receive direct advice from older actives on how, where, when, and what to study. I think more than anything, PhiDE taught me the value of time. As much as I want to get into medical school, it’s going to be a very long journey. Instead of going through college trying to check off a list of requirements, I should do what I love. I should surround myself with people who reassure me and constantly motivate me to always be my best. There is no other organization on campus that focuses specifically on medicine and offers opportunities to internships, jobs, exercise, mentors,...the list goes on and on. I am blessed to be an active in this organization that continually gives. I cannot wait to pick up my own little so that I can guide him or her through college the way this organization led me.
